In addition to the evening festival in our town square, there was also a high school soccer tournament held in celebration of the founding of Yuty. High schools from within our town, as well as ones from the surrounding countryside brought a boys’ and girls’ team to an all-day tournament.
It was a nice, sunny day so Isaiah and I walked the few blocks to the soccer complex to check out the action.
The turnout surprised and impressed me. The bleachers were covered with community members and small stands were set up at the entrance of the field to sell hamburgers, empanadas, drinks and ice cream.
Each game was shortened to maybe 20 or 30 minutes to keep things moving and they alternated between a girls’ and then a guys’ game.
We were lucky enough to spot a friend with ice-cold tereré in the stands, so we sat with him and let the cool, flavorful water prevent us from baking in the sun.
Walking home for lunch we took in the scene of spectators perched on the perimeter wall, watching the games from perhaps one of the best seats in the house.
After all those festivals last weekend, I am looking forward to a good dose of relaxing this weekend! What about you? Do you have anything you’re looking forward to on the weekend docket?
