Peanuts are to peanut butter as sesame seeds are to tahini. So when we discovered big bags of sesame seeds for sale at our local cooperative, the light bulb went off that we could make our own tahini! You know, the magic ingredient in hummus. And it doesn’t stop there – it’s also tasty in a homemade salad dressing, added to a smoothie, or drizzled over a sliced apple or banana.
Homemade Tahini Recipe
2 cups sesame seeds
2 tablespoons olive oil
1. Toast sesame seeds, stirring frequently, until they start to pop (about 5 minutes).
2. Blend toasted seeds in blender or food processor until powdery.
3. Add olive oil and process until creamy.
It’s as simple as that! Oh, and it’s best stored in the fridge. So in what ways do you use tahini?
